Pete Kilner, PhD, retired in 2017 from the US Army as an infantry lieutenant colonel after twenty-eight years of service. As Professor of Leader Development and Organizational Learning at the US Military Academy, he taught courses on Ethical Reasoning, Just War, and Officership. He deployed five times to Iraq and Afghanistan to research small-unit combat leadership, interviewing nearly four hundred soldiers. He regularly leads discussions on the moral justifications of war and of killing in war for both military and civilian audiences. He co-authored two books and has penned more than eighty articles on ethics, leadership, and instructional design.
